Special Education - Learning and Behavior Disorders Certification Preparation

EKU’s online Learning and Behavior Disorders certification is a graduate, non-degree granting program that focuses on best practices and promotes the knowledge and skill sets needed to advance the quality of services and educational programs for students with learning and behavior disorders. The program meets Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board certification requirements and prepares educators with current Kentucky teaching certification to add additional certification in the area of learning and behavior disorders.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a current Kentucky Provisional Teaching Certificate in Elementary, Middle Grades, Special Education (IECE, MSD, D/HH) or High School content areas. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for openings that serve students with learning and behavior disorders (P-12). 

NOTE: If you do not hold teacher certification in Kentucky, please consult with your state’s licensing agency to determine whether our program will meet your state’s licensure requirements.

Program requirements

  • Prospective graduate students must meet the admissions requirements of the Graduate School.
  • Candidates without prior graduate coursework must either have earned an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (or a GPA of 3.25 or higher in their last 60 hours) or they must submit either GRE or MAT scores.
  • Candidates must have a valid state teaching certification.
