School Media Librarianship — Adding Certification Option

EKU’s online School Media Librarianship — Adding Certification option is a non-degree granting program that enables teachers holding a valid Kentucky teaching license to meet  Education Professional Standards Board requirements to obtain a Kentucky P-12 certificate as a School Media Librarian.* Educators leave the program prepared to serve as a School Media Librarian P-12.

Students pursuing this option must hold an undergraduate degree and a valid Kentucky teaching license.

*Out-of-state students are responsible for checking with their Department of Education regarding coursework needed to meet certification/endorsement requirements as a school librarian/library media specialist in their particular state.

NOTE: If you do not hold teacher certification in Kentucky, please consult with your state’s licensing agency to determine whether our program will meet your state’s licensure requirements.

Program requirements

  • Prospective graduate students must meet the admissions requirements of the Graduate School.
  • Candidates without prior graduate coursework must either have earned an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (or a GPA of 3.25 or higher in their last 60 hours) or they must submit either GRE or MAT scores.
  • Candidates must have a valid state teaching certification.
